May 17th - Leaving Albany

Friday May 17

We both worked until 3:00 then it was time to head home and get to the airport for our 6:00 flight to Detroit. We had to detour to the library to return books, though, so it was a circuitous drive home. Between traffic, and a utility pole down on one of the side streets, there were all sorts of delays. Would we ever get home?

Enough for a week?
So we didn’t get home until well after 3:30, and then had to rush through the last minute things. Luckily we were all packed, though!

Our Uber was on time but the trip to the airport was slow too. But we were there a little after 5:00 and right through security with minimal waiting time. We were going all carry-on today so no waiting, and no worrying about whether luggage would get lost.

We skipped our usual stop at the bar for a drink and a snack, as we didn't want to rush things and we'd be getting drinks on the plane anyway.

A little wait for our inbound plane which landed at 5:30, but we were not too late out of the gate, and made it into Detroit at a reasonable time. There was a short wait for our gate, then we were off by 7:45.

The fountain in DTW

It was a fair walk to the connecting gate, with no time to stop and enjoy our favorite fountain in Concourse A. When we reached our gate, the board said that our plane was preboarding already. So we decided to not bother with the SkyClub, waited just a few minutes, and boarded as soon as possible.

We had the usual Air France Champagne pre-takeoff and settled in. The airplane pushed back from the gate on time, but sat a few minutes before taxi. We were still on track for an on-time arrival at CDG, but it made for a late dinner. Everything was tasty, and the wine selection was good too.

Then we tried to sleep a little, but not much luck. I guess we are too excited for the trip! A few movies passed the time, and finally we got a bit of sleep.
